Исраэль Глязер – невысокий пожилой мужчина с густыми седыми волосами и проницательными темными глазами. Память Исраэля иногда подводит его, что неудивительно, учитывая его возраст и все пережитое. Иногда он не может вспомнить имена самых близких ему людей. Он был взволнован во время нашей встречи, поскольку это был первый раз, когда ему была предоставлена возможность подробно рассказать о своей жизни. Исраэль живет со своей женой в уютной двухкомнатной квартире, полной мебели времен 1960-х годов. Фотографии его родственников и детей заполняют книжные полки. У него бесплатная еда в столовой Хэсэд каждый день. Он говорит там с другими пожилыми евреями. В субботу Исраэль преподает идиш членам своей общины и иногда присоединяется к ним отмечая шаббат. Его жена не может выходить из дома из-за ее здоровья, и Исраэль старается проводить с ней как можно больше времени. Иногда к ним приходят их соседи и знакомые. Их сыновья часто навещают их.
