Israel Gliazer e un bătrân scund cu un păr cărunt des şi cu ochi întunecați şi severi. Din păcate memoria lui Israel uneori îi creează probleme. El nu poate reține numele apropiaților săi. A fost entuziasmat pe parcursul întâlnirii noastre deoarece a fost pentru prima dată când i s-a oferit posibilitatea să povestească despre viața sa în detalii. Israel locuiește într-un apartament micuț cu două odăi alături de soția sa. E un apartament dotat cu mobilă modestă, produsă încă în anii 60 ai secolului trecut. Pe rafturile de cărți se văd poze ale rudelor şi copiilor lui. Zilnic, servește masa gratuit de trei ori pe zi la Hesed. Acolo mai discută cu alți evrei bătrâni. În fiecare sâmbătă, Israel predă ore de idiș pentru comunitatea locală iar uneori li se alătură pentru a sărbători Sabatul. Soția lui stă acasă din cauza problemelor de sănătate iar Israel se străduie să petreacă cu ea cât mai mult timp posibil. Uneori vecinii şi cunoștințele lor vin în vizită la ei. Fiul lor vine des să-i vadă.
